Does baking soda and peroxide really clean teeth and make them white?

Does baking soda and peroxide really clean teeth and make them white?

Whenever I go to the dentist they complain that my teeth are too yellow/orange/stained to get sent to the braces doctor(Name slips my head at the moment) so they tell me to keep brushing twice a day and flossing once. I've been flossing once every two days and brushing everyday, just to get the hang of it. I *WANT* braces. I have those 'canine' teeth that are near the top of my mouth and I want them fixed.

Today my aunt told me to try this; baking soda and peroxide every second day insted of toothpaste, but, use my floride after it. Does this really help get my teeth clean?

Yes, it does. I heard about it on the Oprah Show - Oprah Winfrey uses it on her own teeth and look at her teeth - they're absolutely beautiful! Best of luck!
Reply:I heard baking soda works well, try it.
Reply:It does help and it helps to eat a spoonful of baking soda for heartburn
Reply:Yes, in my experience it does.
Reply:yeah it will. thats probably what your grandma used when she was little. my mom does it 4 times a week and hers are really white. and she's a major coffee drinker so if it works for her it has to work for you! i use colgate whitening! i only have a cappachino once in a while but that colgate keeps mine white
Reply:bad teeth are a HUGE turn off...just so you know
Reply:I dont think ur dentist is not referring u to ur orthodontist jus because ur teeth is yellow. most probably its because ur teeth is dirty. they wont refer u unless u can keep ur teeth clean cos u need to put in extra effort in cleaning whn u hve ur braces on. if u r not able to take care of ur oral hygiene, during ur treatment u can develop gum disease n also white spot lesions (initial stage of decay) on ur teeth which is gonna cost u more to go for further treatment to correct all these problems. n ur treatment is a waste if u have well-aligned teeth but gum disease n holes on ur teeth. so make sure u r brushing ur teeth well atleast twice a day most importantly at night n flossing ur teeth atleast once a day. by tis way ur oral hygiene would b better n u would also b happy wif the end result of ur orthodontic treatment. all the best to u.
Reply:I agree with Jarin. It's not that your teeth are yellow from stain, they are yellow from plaque! They will not refer you to the orthdontist if you can't keep your teeth clean without braces. If they put braces on you and you can't keep your teeth clean, then your teeth will rot out.

You have to brush at least 2x/day for 2 minutes each time. Time yourself, you're probably not even brushing close to 2 mintues each time. And get into the habit of flossing, if you can't do it, then get a Waterpik. You'll need one for braces anyway. Also, make sure your toothbrush is small, really compact, maybe even a child's size one. If your teeth aren't straight and are really crowded then a larger toothbrush will just skip over areas and no matter how much you brush, you'll always miss those nooks and crannies.

Good luck!
Reply:the braces doctor is an orthdontist by the way.

umm i have heard that peroxide and baking soda work well. but i have never used it. i would advise you to be very careful and do not ingest or swallow any of it though. hopefully they work well for you.

i personally use the crest whiteneing pre brush rinse and my electric toothbrush. that works well for me, but my teeth have always been white.

you dont have to get the crest kind i saw at target that they have target brand for a few dollars less, i use crest but they should work the same.

good luck.
Reply:Baking soda and peroxide WILL make your teeth clean and whiter. They're the main ingredients in most toothpastes already. All your removing are added chemicals and flavors. Peroxide is great in that it gets in between your teeth to break down exsisting plaque. Baking soda is better than regular toothpaste because it doesn't have all the harsh chemicals.

I mix up some baking soda with peroxide in a small cup, dip in my toothbrush and gently (!!!) brush my teeth. The peroxide goes to work foaming and killing bacteria and restoring the health of the gums and the baking soda cleans my teeth.
