you can go to your state's official website and in the healthcare license section you can check your dentist for previous incidents. these would include arrests, malpractice, and lawsuits.
the best thing to do is get a couple referrals from friends and just pop in on the office and confront them directly with fears and concerns. a good office will put you at ease by giving you a tour and some introductions to the staff.
it's gonna be hard to find a bad dentist though. last year, dentist was the second most trusted profesion behind clergy and also the second least likely professional to change even after you move. we were behind accountants in that category.
