hi i have a 13 month old cavalier king charles ,he has a dentrixstick every day to make his teeth clean but should i brush them as well? i was told clean teeth , good heart and as cavaliers tend to have heart problems when they are older should i brush them as well , is it true about clean teeth good heart??
Do you brush your dogs teeth?
I brush my dogs teeth every night. It is recommended that you brush their teeth 3-5 times a week, or as often as you can. I do recommend brushing your pups teeth, even though you mentioned you give him a dentastick. Dentasticks (or any other bones) should not be a replacement for tooth brushing. I perform about 6 dentals a week and I can absolutely tell if a dog gets their teeth brushed. It makes a huge difference. It can add 3-5 years to a dogs life.

Reply:No. You can buy in pet shops something that dogs eat and it cleans his teet.
Reply:I don't brush my dog's teeth. She eats raw, so her teeth are perfectly white.
Reply:I bush my all three of my Border Collie's teeth. They hate it but its good for them. :]
Just make sure that you use doggie toothpaste.
Reply:i wouldn't keep your dog safe

Reply:It is true that bad teeth do affect the heart. Do his teeth look like they are dirty or have alot of plaque? Does he have bad breath? I don't brush the dog's teeth, don't have to, they are perfectly white and no plaque at all. Some breeds tho have worse teeth than others and need that extra care.
Reply:you don't have to some dog foods freshens breath and cleans teeth
Reply:I give mine pigs ears and their teeth are bright, white and plaque free. I keep an eye on them as well as their gums. If I see the teeth getting to be a problem I plan on brushing.
Reply:My dogs are all raw fed as well and have lovely clean teeth, even my 10-12 year old husky/Rottie mix (who came to me with terrible teeth). Give them a raw knucklebone in their crate to work on once a week will help a lot.
Reply:yes you should. there are some exceptions as some people mentioned, like feeding raw, that may lessen the need to do so. but generally speaking yes you should clean the dogs teeth. but it is something that you have to sonsistently do or it makes no difference. brushing them once a month isnt going to do much, but brushing them at least 5 times a week will. and as it is very easy to do, it saves you money at a vet visit.
Reply:My dogs eat a Greenie every other day and on the days they dont eat a Greenie they get their teeth brushed. I believe that tooth brushing is necessary with or without the Greenies. You should probably start brushing your dogs teeth a couple of times a week.
Reply:Yes I brush my guys teeth. There is a connection between teeth and the heart even for us humans.
I would say brush them now he needs to get use to it and he is still young. Many tiems older dogs do not take will to teeth brushing if they were not use to it as pups.
Reply:yea i brush my dogs teeth or they get yellow and his breath smells like crap
