Should I pay $600 to my dentist get deep cleaning?

I haven’t had a check up on my teeth in over a year and I’ve always brushed and floss my teeth. I went to see a new dentist and she recommends I should get a deep cleaning done on my teeth. This procedure cost $600 and it’s not covered by insurance. I’ve always had just the basic cleaning done and I never experience any pain in my teeth or gums. She was telling me if I don’t get it done, my gums are going to get infected. I want to have good oral hygiene but I don’t want to pay $600 to have my teeth cleaned. Can anyone tell me if “deep teeth cleaning” is really necessary? Can your teeth be “ok” just with basic cleaning, that is covered by insurance?

Should I pay $600 to my dentist get deep cleaning?
i think you should go to another dentist and get a second opinion or call around to see if you can get the same procedure done by someone else cheaper...that does sound like alot of money...
Reply:600 dollars!!?? thats wayy too much
Reply:Yes, you do need deep cleanings. I've had 2 this year and will have one more. If not, you are in danger of getting gum disease and losing all of your teeth. But, mine does not cost that much-- maybe $150.
Reply:My deep cleaning was paid for by my insurance and it was $362 they covered it all but it is necessary I think. I sat in the chair for almost 2 hours while they lifted my gums and ripped my teeth apart (not really) but its intense, the after effect is great you never know how much stuff you have deep up in your gums its disgusting. It can cause bad breath, gingivitis, receding gum line etc you should get it but it also depends on the hygienist I was in the military and had crappy people so it depends if your dentist thinks its necessary.
Reply:I went to a new dentist and I was told the same thing. I went ahead with it, and now I regret it. It was the same price as yours, except I had to get it done twice this year. It HURTS. Also, I had to get on a payment plan in order to afford everything (also had a cavity filled, which was the only reason I first went in) and it's going to take me a full year now to pay it off. I always brush and floss and take good care of my teeth. Since I have never been told this before, I think it's a new scam for the dental industry to make more money. If it was truly necessary, wouldn't my insurance have covered it?
Reply:When a procedure such as deep cleaning is done, they charge by the ''quadrant'' and $150 per quadrant is a good price,I had it done and I wasn't told the price before my Dentist did the procedure and my Dentist hit me with a $1600 bill, $400 per quadrant,I about passed out and because of the laws in my state,I didn't have to pay because you are required to sign a document before the work is done as to you agreeing to the procedure and the price. But I did get a good deep cleaning. The Dentist I have now charges $160 per quad. for a deep cleaning.
Reply:If you need it done I suggest getting AmeriPlan USA

it is a discount dental card that is only $11.95 a month it saves you alot of money.. I did a root canal and it supposed to cost $819 dollars and it came out to $610 not bad...Well check it out...
