I have to get oral surgery done to extract my wisdom teeth, and I wanted to schedule my fillings and cleanings with my dentist, around three days later. Is this safe? I figure by then, my teeth and mouth should be feeling fine, but I wasn't sure if it could be done that way. Thats the only time I could schedule the appointment with my dentist, and I wanted to get everything taken care of in one week. Do you think my mouth would have healed by then? Thanks.
Would it be okay/safe to schedule fillings and a cleaning 3 days after surgery to extract wisdom teeth?
I think you are asking for a really bad infection. Your dentist drilling away at your tooth when you have open sores from the extraction is just asking for it. If you want both done in the same week I would get the filling and cleaning done first and then the extractions.
Reply:its always better to do the cleaning %26amp; fillings before the surgery, if after surgery you have to wait for 15 -20 days for the inital healing of the socket. Some times the debrey can get stuck into the socket %26amp; cause infection. 3 days your jaw will be raw %26amp; you will not be able to open wider.
Reply:Hmmm. 3 days after mine, I was a little tender and my mouth was hard to open big. I wouldn't want to go back so soon. Best to call and ask the dentist's opinion.
Reply:I don't think you'd be able to open your mouth wide enough for them to do that type of work so soon after surgery. It can take a couple of weeks after the surgery to get normal motion of the jaw back.
Reply:No you need to wait until your dentist says it is ok. I don't think it a wise idea to get it done that close to having an extraction. believe me no one heals that quick. I was off my game for almost 2 weeks and it took another month or so before it healed over enough to really chew on that side of my mouth and I am a pretty quick healer. I think you should also wait just to see how you are feeling.
Reply:that is a bad idea. if you get your wisdom teeth cut out you won't even be able to open your mouth wide enough. and your dentists probably won't do it anyway.
