At what age its ok to ask little kids to use tooth brush for cleaning up teeth?

At the day care center, where I worked, we started at about 10 months to have it do it themselves. Of course they don%26#039;t really brush their teeth, but we did put a little toothpaste on a baby brush and have them chew on it, to get used to the brush and the taste of it. By the time they turn 2 you can sit down with them and show them how, by sitting in front of them and using your own brush on you. Let them go to the drugstore with you and have them pick their favorite brush, so they can%26#039;t wait to actually use it.You still need to help them to get it real clean. And don%26#039;t use fluoride, it harms more, than it is good for you, it%26#039;s poisoning. check both links below.

You should clean their teeth even before they have teeth. Brush their gums with a gum cleaner so they%26#039;ll have healthy gums and start brushing their teeth as soon as they get teeth so they can have healthy teeth and you can promote healthy teeth habits early on. And remember to floss, flossing cuts down on tooth decay a lot.
Reply:as soon as the first tooth starts to pop out its best to clean it, as for walking talking kids around 2 is a good age to start teachingg them to clean there teeth. youll have to follow up after there done but youll be teaching them good brushing habbits.
Reply:What else are they supposed to use? lol. Before teeth come in you get them used to having something in their mouth by using a damp cloth on your finger, or one of the gum massagers, or even one of the baby toothbrushes to gently remove food from their gums. I was just reading the little booklet that came with my toddler%26#039;s toothpaste and it said that until they can write on their own, they do not have the co-ordination to be able to clean their teeth properly on their own. Although they should get the chance to do some on their own, the actual %26quot;real%26quot; cleaning should be done by an adult who knows how to do it properly.
Reply:You should start cleaning teeth with a finger brush or washcloth when a baby is introduced to solids. Even if there are no teeth yet, the gums need to be cleaned. You can use infant toothpaste - it is flouride free. Around 18-24 months when your baby is becoming more indepentdent, you can teach them to use a toddler toothbrush. You can do this by brushing your teeth at the same time and helping them learn to hold their toothbrush correctly. Stick with the flouride free toddler toothpaste until your child understands not to swallow it. At this age they are too young for mouthwash of any sort, you should wait until 5-6 years to introduce that.
Reply:I started with my son when his teeth came in. They kind of chew on the brush as they get a little older, but at least you can get the teeth sort of clean. If you start early with the toothbrushing, it should be come a common task and you shouldn%26#039;t have to %26quot;ask%26quot; them to use a toothbrush...it will be part of the evening/morning routine.
Reply:Our kids started at 6 months when they started solids. They are 16 months now (twins) and they LOVE to brush their teeth after they have their night bottle. I also brush my teeth with them, and after almost a year they are still fascinated by how I%26#039;m brushing my teeth and try to mimick me. I%26#039;m sure if you do the same your toddler will want to do what you do.
