Went for a 6 month dental cleaning the dentist didn't look at teeth?

Went for a 6 month dental cleaning the dentist didn%26#039;t look at my teeth. I was wondering if it is common practice to only get examined by the dentist once a year and get x-rays only once a year ? Kinda feel like I got short changed

In some states, if you are a patient of record, the dds can write a script so that you do not have to have an exam. If you have concerns, you can ask for a visit to have an exam when the doctor is in. In VA, you must have been seen by the dds in the last 6 months.

As far as xrays, we take them depending on the patient%26#039;s needs. Some people ever year, some don%26#039;t have their%26#039;s done for 2 years.

Please ask the office personnel when you have questions. They should be able to answer them to your satisfaction.
Reply:How can you see a dentist and get teeth cleaned and they don%26#039;t look? You can%26#039;t clean without looking. Yes, xrays are once a year.
Reply:sounds normal the dentist does have to check at least once a year. a hygenist has a license and is qualified to clen teeth with out the doc around. most ins. only pays for x-rays once a year.
Reply:In my office I check patients once a year unless they ask me to look at their mouth [that saves them some $$$]..We do x-rays depending on the caries [cavity] history of the patient. Some we do every year and others every 2 years. This also saves some folks some $$. If you want your doc to check you each time you come in then just ask but expect to pay for it too.
