What is teeth deep cleaning?

Do I need to take antibiotics?

What is teeth deep cleaning?
If you are referring to a scaling and root planing, which is sometimes called a deep cleaning, here is some information. Instead of typing it all out for you, I have copied and pasted from a website information on this procedure.

As far as the deep cleaning is concerned, this is usually done if there are signs of periodontal disease. In my office we do these cleanings in quadrants...the upper and lower side of half the mouth at each visit because anesthetic is commonly used and you don%26#039;t want the entire mouth numb at once.

Periodontal scaling is a treatment procedure involving instrumentation of the crown and root surfaces of the teeth to remove plaque, calculus, and stains from these surfaces. It is performed on patients with periodontal disease and is therapeutic in nature.

Periodontal scaling may precede root planing, which is a definitive, meticulous treatment procedure designed to remove cementum and/or dentin that is rough, may be permeated by calculus, or contaminated with toxins or microorganisms. When done in a thorough fashion, some unavoidable soft tissue removal occurs.

This procedure is used as a definitive treatment in some stages of periodontal disease and is part of presurgical therapy in others. It is recognized that debriding the root surface is a critical element in establishing periodontal health. They may need to be repeated and may require local anesthetic. The tooth roots may also be planed to smooth the root surface allowing the gum tissue to heal and reattach to the tooth. In some cases, the occlusion (bite) may require adjustment.

Antibiotics or irrigation with anti-microbials (chemical agents or mouth rinses) may be recommended to help control the growth of bacteria that create toxins and cause periodontitis. In some cases, your doctor may place an antibiotic in the periodontal pockets after scaling and planing. This may be done to control infection and to encourage normal healing.

When deep pockets between teeth and gums are present, it is difficult for your doctor to thoroughly remove plaque and tartar. Patients can seldom, if ever, keep these pockets clean and free of plaque. Consequently, surgery may be needed to restore periodontal health.
Reply:Not necessarily. If you mean the Dentist%26#039;s deep cleaning, they will scrape the tartar off your teeth then polish them and floss them. It really makes your teeth feel good after you get it done and should be done twice a year.
Reply:Deep cleaning is done by a dental specialist who removes tartar deep below the gum line, well below where a normal cleaning is done. A deadening agent is usually applied to the gums prior to cleaning. Antibiotics are not normally used.
Reply:Basically, the dentist will first make your gums numb with some cream, then he/she will give you a few injections to make you completly numb. Then he will use an instrument to clean your teeth, inbetween the teeth and your gums. So, he will be going inside them and there will be some blood, but you won%26#039;t feel a thing. Don%26#039;t let all the noise scare you though! He might advise you to take some pain killers, if you need it. But I didn%26#039;t. Just rest up afterwards, take it easy and you%26#039;ll be fiiiiine! Good luck!
Reply:well deep cleaning of teeth is actually known as SCALING(or ROOT PLANNING)...its a treatment where pt actually get gums, surrounding tissues and roots of their teeth cleaned,,,such a treatment is actually required to remove any sort of plaque(Bacterias.etc.),calculus(again hardened form of plaque) or anyother debris removed from gums(gingiva) and root of teeth...such a treatment is done to avoid any sort of PERIODONTAL(structures surrounding the teeth) or GINGIVAL(gums) disease...Its a common treatment and u dont need to worry about it..its a good treatment for ur dental health and gums if u get it done...

one another piece of advise after getting it done ask ur dentist or hygeinist to give u instructions on how to maintain good dental and gum health...whatever technique he tells u do apply it because most people dont apply it resulting in that problem sometimes coming again in future..specially for people who smoke or eat tobacco regarding its cessation...

and well regarding antibiotics whether u need it or not..well i cant tell u like that whether u need it or not becuase antibiotics are actually taken if u have infection and specially in such a case where infection cannot subside by treatment only...so the best is to ask ur dentist regarding this because he knows ur condition..and avoid taking antibiotics without his precription because its better to not take them that much,,

best of luck for ur treatment
