How often should you get your dog's teeth cleaned?

I guess I%26#039;ve been neglecting to brush my dog%26#039;s teeth and now there%26#039;s some visible plaque on her back teeth. Besides the obvious cosmetic benefits, is there any other reason to get a teeth cleaning for her? If I should, how often should teeth cleanings be? Thanks in advance

How often should you get your dog%26#039;s teeth cleaned?
teeth cleaning is as beneficial to dogs as it is for humans. Bad teeth can cause heart disease, and rotten teeth can lead to horribly painful infections. We tell our clients about every couple years, BUT it depends all on the animal. there are some dogs who need dentals every six months and others who only need it every couple years. once your dog gets his dental make sure he gets regular checkups thereafter from your vet to assess the amount of plaque.
Reply:Once a year to help keep gums and teeth healthy
Reply:ive never had a dogs teeth cleaned and never will. all my dogs lasted a long time
Reply:teeth cleaning is essential of dogs, because that%26#039;s the thing that they use on a day to day basis (even playing fetch). By not cleaning your dog%26#039;s teeth, they can get many gum problems just like we can, and it weakens and causes the teeth and gums to be sore, which makes them unable or difficult to eat. teeth cleaning should be, in my thinking, at least once per 2 weeks. getting your dog chew on the toy bones is also a good choice, cause it exercises their jaw muscles and cleans their teeth of plaque. they also have treats for dogs that cleans the dogs%26#039; teeth if they chew on them. check out your local pet store and ask them about those products, and if you%26#039;re still worried about what diseases your dog can get from not brushing your dog%26#039;s teeth, check with your vet.
Reply:She could get cavities and lose her teeth just like humans. Then it would be really hard for her to eat or play, she would have to be fed canned/soft food only. I do not know about this since she already has plaque. Take her to the vet or doggy dentist and see if she needs her teeth professionally cleaned or just a good brushing. This is what I do with our dogs (both ours and foster dogs). They get their teeth brushed once a month; there are doggy toothbrushes sized according to the dogs mouth/size (example you wouldnt want to brush a baby puppys mouth with a brush made for an adult large breed dog). You can get toothpaste in dog friendly flavors. This month we have pork. I have seen beef flavor, peanut butter flavor, etc. Also, our dogs chew compressed rawhide chews. This helps to keep their teeth healthy and exercised and to prevent plaque from forming on teeth. Also, there are hard plastic/rubber dental chew bones especially designed for cleaning teeth. The toothbrush, paste, bones, etc we get come from PetSmart, but I am sure any pet supply store has them. GOOD LUCK
Reply:Feed the dog dry food daily so the gums %26amp; teeth get a regular work out. Use canned food occasionaly and if there%26#039;s bad breath, try a DentaBone.
Reply:plaque on teeth can cause infections that when swallowed can get into the dogs bloodstream and into the heart causing irreversible damage. Most heart problems in cats and dogs are caused by neglected teeth. My dog gets her teeth cleaned every two years because I brush her teeth every day and give her chew treats with enzymes to break down plaque. you can get them from the vet or use greenie treats from petco.
Reply:I brush my dog%26#039;s teeth every day. I use a chicken flavored enzyme toothpaste. I%26#039;m trying to avoid having her go under anesthesia unnecessarily.
Reply:I have Lexi%26#039;s teeth cleaned at least one a month along with her grooming.
