Should i get cleaning for my teeth?(from doctor)?

I going to get a conseltation for braces. I already had a couple but oIne doctor said that I need cleaning before my conseltstion

We can brush plaque off with a toothbrush.


-It%26#039;s the sticky yellow fuzzy stuff that gets on our teeth.





A dentist or hygienist removes calculus from our teeth


(you%26#039;ve probably heard it called TARTAR)





Calculus is hardened plaque that a toothbrush just can%26#039;t take off.


Calculus builds up over time --- it just does, we can%26#039;t brush our teeth ALLL the time =)





If a person doesn%26#039;t have regular dental visits to have it removed, it just keeps building up. If it builds up for long enough, it is pretty easy to see on our teeth and it does look a bit like enamel, but it%26#039;s not, and it is harmful to our teeth and gums.





Simply put, you definately don%26#039;t want it on your teeth,


and you reeeally don%26#039;t want it underneath braces!


If it%26#039;s left there, it would just keep destroying your teeth right under those braces.


What a shame it would be to get your braces off and have really straight teeth --- that are full of cavities!





Let%26#039;s not do that! =)

And remember to keep your teeth clean while you have braces! Brush! Floss!

Reply:Your brother should know that if you (or he) were to see a dental hygienist for cleaning, they do not scrape off the enamel.





They would usually ask a bunch of questions and examine your mouth thoroughly. Sometimes you might need x-rays.





Then they would discuss with you a plan about getting your teeth clean and keeping them clean. They would probably want to review your toothbrushing skills in all this.





If there is need for the hygienist to remove plaque buildup %26quot;scaling%26quot;, they would do it by hand with a set of special instruments called Gracey Curettes (special instruments designed to scrape the plaque off your teeth without damaging your enamel) or they would do it with an ultrasound scaler.





The aim of such a cleaning would be to scrape off the mucky brown bit (which DOES grow back) - i.e. the bacterial plaque - while leaving the white bit of the tooth intact.
Reply:Tooth cleanings DO NOT scrape off enamel!!- All that comes of is plaque and tartar that cause gum disease and decay. Dental cleanings are essential to keeping your teeth for your whole life. You have some misconceptions about tooth cleanings, please educate yourself for your teeth%26#039;s sake!!!
Reply:yes. they wont take off the enamel just the plack n tarter and all that icky stuff
